Wooden Boat Marine Surveyor: Brisbane & Gold Coast, Australia

Condition surveys of wooden small craft <35 metres

iimarine are certificated marine surveyors operating in the Brisbane and Gold Coast areas of Southeast Queensland, Australia. We currently offer consulting and condition inspection services for commercial and recreational motor and sailing vessels of timber construction up to 35 metres in length.

We draw on extensive and varied practical experience in building, maintaining, repairing, renovating, operating and surveying wooden boats of both traditional and modern construction in Europe, Southeast Asia and Australia. We are also specialists in steel built vessels, with particular regard to repair, damage control, preventative maintenance and corrosion detection and prevention.

Our Principal Surveyor is an experienced professional seaman and our surveys focus not only on the structural integrity and capabilities of the vessel but also on safe practices in working and living areas, best use and positioning of navigation instruments, safety and communication equipment and the usability and compliance of life saving and fire fighting appliances.

We are happy to offer impartial advice and recommendations, based on current national and international guidelines and legislation, and on common sense and practical experience. "Minimum legal requirements" sometimes prove to be both inadequate and inappropriate in a real life emergency. Our aim is to assist you in maximising your enjoyment and efficiency in operating the vessel whilst minimising the element of risk which is always present when a vessel puts to sea.

The survey includes an audit of the following:

  • LSA and safety equipment
  • Fire fighting equipment
  • Bilge pumping arrangements
  • Communication equipment
  • Navigation instruments
  • Navigation lights and shapes
  • Ground tackle and mooring arrangments
  • Non destructive testing of hull, deck, superstructure and structural members
  • Electronic ultrasonic thickness testing
  • Electronic moisture content testing
  • Structural, watertight and weathertight integrity
  • Through-hull fittings, seacocks, pipe work, hoses, etc
  • Scuppers and drainage arrangements
  • Investigation of, and protection against, corrosion, galvanic reaction, electrolytic corrosion, rot, marine borers, etc
  • Visual inspection of masts, spars and rigging
  • Derricks, davits, cranes, etc
  • Fuel storage and delivery
  • Propulsion equipment and auxiliaries
  • Electrical installation

The survey is finalised by the publication of a detailed professional report, which may be used for insurance purposes.

These services can be provided on a one-off, fixed fee basis and on a contract or sub contract basis.

Please Contact Us with details of the vessel you would like us to attend and we will be pleased to discuss prices and availability.
