The cost of a compass adjustment on a vessel of less than 80 metres (LOA) depends on the size and location of the vessel and the number of compasses requiring adjustment. Small craft (<24 metres) of non-steel construction are priced at a discount. For example, a compass swing for a <15 metre, timber, fibreglass or aluminium vessel will usually cost between Aus$250 and $350, depending on the location.
For small craft operators, it is also worth noting that consecutive adjustments on different vessels at the same location on the same day will cost less due to expenses being shared between vessels / clients.
Vessels of 80 metres and over are charged at a fixed rate (POA), plus expenses and any spare parts supplied. Ship-shore transfers, if required, are to be arranged by and costs met by the client / agent. Access to and from the vessel is to be enabled by the client / agent.
Compass adjustments carried out in Australia are invoiced in Australian dollars. Compass adjustments carried out in Hong Kong can be invoiced in either Hong Kong or US dollars. Fees are payable on presentation of invoice and must be paid in full before issue of deviation card, unless otherwise agreed previously.
